SELF-DRIVE IN THE ICELANDIC HIGHLANDS.
The ultimate motivation and Team-Building.

Iceland was made for team-building..! With the fantastic highlands and a highly developed tourism industry, a tour to Iceland is a sure success for your team.

We have now, in co-operation with an Icelandic partner, developed a new and fantastic way for teambuilding in Iceland. In huge SuperJeeps (motivated Land Rovers on 38" tires) in the Icelandic highlands will the participants get the chance to try their skill s for driving in deep snow and over streaming rivers. Most people have never tried this before and this is a tour where most people will exceed their limits in many ways. This is a safe tour with experienced highland guides in big and sturdy jeeps, which the participants drive themselves. From beginning to end, they will come upon new tasks and will have to master the skill of driving in snow and on volcanic sands and there will be lots of other teambuilding tasks built into the program on the tour; from making food together to survival skills in harsh environment. The ultimate team-building tour. Here is a sample program for such a tour.

Day 1.

15:30 Arrival to Keflavik airport. In the arrival hall the group will be met by their Highland Guide that will take them to their SuperJeeps. We drive from the airport and will take on a gravel road to get everyone accustomed to the cars. This tour will end by the Blue Lagoon, where they will take a relaxing bath in the milky-blue geothermal water. A waiter will bring a welcome drink into the lagoon and it is time to make an official start of the tour.. Cheers..!

After a good bath and a fantastic experience the tour continues along the south shore to the quiet fishing village of Stokkseyri. We drive to the restaurant "At the Seashore", where the group will be met by the staff offering a traditional Icelandic welcome drink (a Brennivin snaps) and afterwards they will enjoy a fantastic lobster fiest in the old boathouse in a primitive way, eating with their hands. A fun start to the tour.

Menu
Lobster fiest with salad, bread, potatoes, cous cous and selection of sauces
Dessert & Coffee/Tea

The restaurant "At the Seashore" has become a world famous seafood restaurant and a must in all company tours to Iceland. The lobster is fantastic and the atmosphere is extraordinary. In an old boathouse they set up long tables that are filled with lobster and side dishes. The primitive way of eating there brings out the best in the team and they will have a fun evening not to be forgotten for a long time.

After the lobster fiest we continue the tour to mountain huts for the first night. There are outdoor hot-pots (and they are warm) on the veranda where the group can relax and enjoy the evening.

Day 2.

A team is chosen to make breakfast for the group and after a good breakfast the tour continues to the highland oasis Thorsmork. This place lies in between 2 glaciers and on the way there the group has to drive over many glacial rivers that have not been bridged (no use, the rivers change their path all the time...) Driving over these rivers is a real boundary breaker and a huge adrenalin kick. When over, the reward is a huge relive of being able to cross, but you will be asking to do it again..!! On the way the group will enjoy the spectacular nature with mountains that have remarkable rock formations. On the way to Thorsmork we will stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss, where the team has to walk around the waterfall, getting the unexpected experience of seeing it from behind. We will also stop at a glacial lake with floating icebergs.

After a fantastic off-road drive into Thorsmork, we head back down and further along the south coast to the Solheimajokull glacier. We drive up to and onto the glacier and to a place, where snow scooters are awaiting. The team takes on a one hour scooter tour on the huge snow-cap in close contact with the harsh Icelandic elements. All equipment for the tour such as helmets, suits, thermal gloves and boots will be provided for and the guide will lead the group in save areas having to take on obstacles on the tour.

After the snow scooter tour we will drive to the south coast and on the black volcanic sands with the huge breaking waves of the Atlantic ocean close by. We drive off-road driving in the dunes and in the breaking waves. When all have had enough, we head back to the huts, and the chosen ones for dinner will in cooperation with the guide make a grilled lamb for the group. The guide will find some beers and now it is time to relax in the hot tubs...

Day 3.

After a good breakfast, made by the team, we leave the huts and head on to the boiling hot-springs at Geysir area, where the geyser Strokkur rewards its spectators with a 30m high pillar of boiling water every 5th. minute. We drive to the golden waterfall Gullfoss, one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfall and certainly the most famous one. From there we take on to highland tracks and head for Tingvellir area and the route has many fantastic places for fun driving. All the way the group will enjoy a fantastic view over the mountains.

We arrive at Tingvellir National Park, one of Iceland’s natural wonders and a holy place in the minds of locals, as there, the world’s first parliament was gathered by the Vikings in year 930 and is still the world’s oldest parliament. The nature at Tingvellir is a geological wonder, as there one can see on the surface how the tectonic plates move away from each other. The area is covered in deep and wide cracks, long fissures run across the landscapes and a big lake has formed where the ground sank dawn after the last big eruption there. A fantastic place. We will drive to the fissure Silfra, where water that fell as snow for about 1.000 years ago on the glaciers comes out of the lava and is crystal clear. We take on a snorkelling tour in the fissure with visibility in the water op to 150m...! It is like floating in air, it is so clear and we have heard of some divers that have experienced vertigo when they look down to the bottom.... We enjoy this underwater world for an hour and then head for Reykjavik, and arrive late afternoon at a good centrally based hotel. This is goodbye to the guide that has been with you for the last 3 days. The group has a bit of time to relax at the hotel, but later in the evening we take to a restaurant, chosen with the groups wishes in mind and afterwards, to a night club for to enjoy the famous Icelandic night-life.

Day 4.

Departure from your hotel according to departure time of your flight home.

Please note that this is just one possibility of many and we will tailor make your tor to your wishes. The self-drive tour can be just one day, 2 or 3 days, depending on your wishes.

The following activities are available during self-drive tours. They consist of questionnaires handed to each team and are to be answered during the day as well as tasks to complete.

  • Treasure hunt with GPS treasure hunt Tug o'war over river
  • Avalanche beepers Soccer Kangaroo bouncing
  • Flute contest Limbo Sac race
  • Egg boiling Puzzle game Oriental table
  • Ice hockey

Road maps and instructions are made for each group, including map of Reykjavik and the area in question. A special cover can be made for the instruction map with the logo of the company. The instruction map contains information about how to drive in Iceland as well as the whole program for the day.

The program can include four-five activities, which are to be done on the road. We use hot pools for egg cooking, rivers for doing tug of war, flutes to make our own concert, limbo, soccer, egg running etc. Also included in the program are questions regarding Iceland (the company or other things) in general. These questions are often related to the information given to the guests by the guide, and oriental points are used to find out names of mountains. If requested, the instruction maps are collected at the end of the day. We find out the results and award the best team during dinner.

Jeep rally - self drive:
Iceland is a rally-driver's Paradise. With its sparsely populated regions, roads of every type and surface and very little traffic in rural areas. We use motivated 4x4 Land Rover jeeps on 38” tires. The group is being led and instructed by one Super Truck. All vehicles can be connected with the Super Truck by radio transmitters. Self-drive by itself is of course pure fun but by adding a treasure hunt or some other challenging activity to the driving we have created both a mental and a physical challenge. Each jeep is a team. All jeeps are furnished with road maps, instructions and a special questionnaire. A special cover can be made with the company's logo. En route the teams have to solve various puzzles and tasks and answer a questionnaire related to the days programme, Icelandic history and to the itinerary of the rally itself. In the evening a special Awards ceremony can be held during dinner for the best performance in the rally. Tour can also be operated without the questionnaire.

Other activities can be chosen as optional e.g. snowmobile-, dog sledging-, rafting-, kayak, bicycle-, and horse riding tours.
